A suspected love triangle turned deadly on Monday 04 May 2926, leaving two people dead and a third in critical condition following a hostage situation that turned into a shootout in Evander.
The incident occurred at approximately 21h00 in a residential compound. According to preliminary reports, the tragedy was sparked by a domestic dispute involving two men and a woman.
Sources indicate that the suspect was “tipped off” regarding the whereabouts of the two victims. Upon receiving this information, the man allegedly confronted the pair and held them hostage.
Concerned bystanders alerted the authorities. However, the situation took a violent turn as soon as law enforcement arrived on the scene.
As police attempted to intervene, the suspect reportedly opened fire, fatally wounding the two victims before turning the weapon on himself.
Both were certified dead at the scene by emergency medical services.
Surviving the self-inflicted wound, the suspect was treated by paramedics and subsequently airlifted to the hospital for emergency care.
Evander police were contacted to a comment. They could not give out the information since the families of the deceased were still yet to identify their bodies.
Investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
