Mandla Khumalo appeared before the Evander magistrate’s court on Friday, 09 May 2025, for judgment.
Khumalo was facing charges of illegal discharge of a firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and malicious damage to public property. His matter has been on the roll for trial for the past months whilst he was kept in custody.
On Friday, 04 August 2023, traffic officials held a road block on the R546 road near the Evander golf course.
It was alleged that on the said date, taxis were impounded and chaos broke out when a traffic official was disarmed of a firearm by an alleged robber; furthermore, two of the traffic official’s vehicles were torched.
The incident led to Khumalo’s arrest. After being denied bail and months of trial, the Evander Magistrates’ court acquitted him of all charges, and he was released from custody.
