The MEC of Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga, Ms Leah Mabuza, together with the Human Rights Commission, celebrated Human Rights Day on Friday, 21 March 2025, at Ext 18 South Hall in eMbalenhle.
The aim of the celebration was to handover two (2) mobile library buses and sports equipment and attire.
This is after the Human Rights Commission identified Govan Mbeki Municipality as one of the municipalities in Gert Sibande District that needs more service delivery as the statistics of GBV and bullying in schools increased.
“The department saw the importance of this handover, especially the mobile libraries, as the buses are equipped and also have internet access to help learners with their schoolwork,” said Mabuza.
The current library in eMbalenhle is unavailable due to renovations of the structure; therefore, the two mobile library buses will be used in locations where there is a need for a library.
MEC Mabuza shared her keynote address, where she emphasised the importance of respecting one another. “Everyone has the right to live and be respected irrespective of their background or current circumstances,” she said.
The handover was completed with a walkout and a demonstration of how people living with disabilities will easily access the buses, as it has a lift to accommodate them.
