The Executive Mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Cllr Nhlakanipho Zuma, together with the Council, unveiled newly procured municipal-owned fleet vehicles in Secunda.

The aim is to mark a significant step forward in enhancing the municipality’s capacity to deliver essential services to the community.

“We as the Govan Mbeki Municipality have acknowledged the fact that we are not doing very well in terms of waste removal; therefore, the council has taken a decision that we should continue with upgrading and buying equipment,” said Cllr Zuma, GMM Executive Mayor.

The fleet included three new waste compactor trucks, three tipper trucks, one front-end loader, as well as a grader and TLB donated by the Gert Sibande District Municipality.

This purchase was made available through the municipal internal funding generated through revenue collected from rates and taxes.

The municipality will continue to purchase a new fleet in the new financial year, with a budget of R25 million for more frontline service delivery vehicles and to replace aged and broken fleets.
