A 16-year-old boy drowned in a dam at eMbalenhle on Tuesday, 14 January 2025.

All emergency personnel were summoned on scene.

According to information at police disposal, the boy and his five friends went to the dam to fish; thereafter they decided to swim.

It is alleged that when his friends saw that he was not coming out, they quickly ran to inform elderly people.

Divers went inside the dam and retrieved him, but unfortunately he was certified deceased at the scene.

In another unfortunate incident, a nine (9) year old boy’s body was discovered on the 8th of January at the Welas River after it was alleged he had drowned the previous day.

He was also declared deceased at the scene of the incident. The police are urging parents to warn their children from swimming in dams, rivers, and streams.
