Rand water has issued a notice to Govan Mbeki Municipality of a planned water shutdown within the municipality.

It has notified communities of a shutdown protocol of a planned maintenance work to tie in the new M9 pipeline to the existing M9 pipeline as well as N6 to the old N6 pipeline.

The duration of the planned maintenance will be 59 hours, starting from 18h00 on 26 May 2023 to 5h00 on 29 May 2023.

During the  planned maintenance, there will be no pumping at Bloemendal and Trichard pumping stations. Wilderbeesfontein reservoir will, as a result, be affected.

During the planned maintenance, all areas within the Govan Mbeki local Municipality will be affected should the Wilderbeesfonteinr reservoir run empty.

Recovery time will be approximately 5 days after pumping has resumed. 

The recommendation is that Victor Khanye Local Municipality fill their reservoirs as well prior to the planned maintenance.

GMM Executive Mayor, Cllr Nhlakanipho Zuma has advised members of the community to remain calm during the next coming days and not cause raots due to the planned maintanine which is going to benefit them in the long run.

Cllr Zuma further stressed that infrustructure upgrade which is to be performed cannot be evaded.
