Rietgat police arrested two men in a white Toyota Quantum suspected of burglarising a local tavern during the early hours of July 25 in Soshanguve, Block FF.

The police intercepted the pair shortly after they had pulled off the said robbery, after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public.

Police were able to locate the car and arrest the men later.

While searching the now seized vehicle, Riegat SAPS recovered three flat-screen plasma TVs, an unregistered firearm and ammunition, liquor and cigarettes suspected stolen from the tavern.

Acting station commander, Colonel Dinah Tabane commended the police for their swift response to the call, stating the station is cracking down on crime in the area.

“It is not going to be business as usual for criminals, we are waging war against crime,” said Tabane.

The suspects are due in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court for various offences including, robbery, and possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

The police are urging the public to continue actively assisting them capture criminals in the act by reporting any suspicious activity in their area.

“I would like to give thanks to the men and women in blue for ensuring that firearms are picked up and suspects arrested in our precinct,” concluded Tabane.
