Anele Maganda, a 10-year-old Grade 4 learner at Sasolia Primary School, is part of the top 10 Data winners in South Africa. This came after she participated in the Coding and Robotics Fruity Gems competition, which was an educational game with a curriculum that they learn at school

Out of all the schools that participated in the country, Anele put Sasolia on the map by bagging 5th position in the competition.

According to Mr Danzel Sibeko, Anele’s teacher, Juicy Gems had a competition where learners from different schools in the whole country had an opportunity to participate in the game. They were required to download an app, which was about coding and robotics, and they could play while at home.

Anele was one of many learners in the whole country who took part in the competition.

“I asked my mom to help download the app, and I started playing. I had to play the game during the late hours of the day. At first it was hard but as I kept on playing I started to enjoy the games, although some of the questions were hard to answer since we have we have not learnt about them at school yet. My mom encouraged me to keep playing. I am happy I won,” Said Anele, smiling.
