A side swipe collision involving an articulated truck and a Mercedes Benz sedan claimed six lives on the N4 toll road towards Mbombela near Montrose on Sunday afternoon, 06 November 2022.
According to Moeti Mmusi from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and Liaison, this is the second major crash today with one having occurred on R544 Road between Verena and Emalahleni that claimed the five lives.
“Three adults and three children who were all occupants in the Mercedes Benz were killed on impact and one critically injured driver of the sedan was airlifted to the nearby hospital in Mbombela.
Meanwhile three pedestrians were slightly injured as they were hit by debris coming from the involved vehicles.
The Toyota Tazz that was stationery on the side of the road was slightly damaged,” said Mmusi
The cause of the accident has not yet been established and investigation is currently underway.
Motorists are advised to be cautious to avoid further loss of lives on the road.
