Siphumelele Youth Development and Information Centre (SYDIC) hosted an essential awareness program on Thursday, 13 March 2025, at Kinross Primary School.
The program was aimed at addressing the issues associated with violence, bullying, drug abuse, and the trafficking of weapons in schools.
Its main objective was to provide learners with critical awareness, valuable information, and guidance to deter them from engaging in harmful activities.
Furthermore, it also aimed to empower all Grade 4 to 7 learners, to ensure that they make informed decisions that contribute to a safer school environment and a brighter future.
“We saw a need to enforce this awareness after the recent incident that took place in one of the schools around Govan Mbeki Municipality. Learners are carrying things that are prohibited at school. Since Kinross Primary is just near our organisation, we saw it fit to share information and consequences, as they are still young and innocent,” said Sibonelo Mcaca of the SYDIC organisation.
Different stakeholders, including the SAPS and officials from the health department, were also in attendance and offered professional guidance on issues of bullying and drug abuse.
