The family of Mgxekwa at Gate 6 (Ext 22) in eMbalenhle is mourning the deaths of their two minor children, who allegedly consumed snacks from a local tuck shop.
Four (4) other children were hospitalized after consuming the same snacks, while one fought for his life in the intensive care unit at Ermelo Hospital but later succumbed.
The grandmother of the children said they are very distraught as a family, and they had hopes that the other child who was in the hospital would recover.
It was further alleged that a councilor from the affected ward confiscated the snacks from the shop after the incident.
The community was furious on Thursday, 16 May 2024 after learning of the first death, and they demanded that foreign-owned tuck shops be closed down.
