Manqoba Maphanga (20) appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 28 August 2025, facing a charge of murder.
His appearance came after he was arrested on the 18th of August 2025.
The information stated in court revealed that Maphanga and the deceased had argued on the 16th of December 2023 at Ext 19 in eMbalenhle, which was later resolved.
Three days later, the deceased went to the nearest spaza shop after having a meal with his mother, where he came across Maphanga and other friends.
Maphanga allegedly approached the deceased and started questioning him.
The deceased allegedly gave a friend his phone. When turning back to face the accused, Maphanga took out a knife and allegedly stabbed the deceased.
He was rushed to Paulina Morapeli Clinic at Ext 19, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The state opposed his bail, citing that he would disappear again after his grandfather took him away from eMbalenhle and kept him at a traditional healer’s place in Bushbuckridge.
The matter was postponed to Tuesday, 09 September 2025, for bail judgment.
