The shooting death of Charlene Felicity Mathews (30), the widow of the late Chief Clyde Mnisi, has been strongly denounced by the SAPS management in Mpumalanga under the direction of the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela.
She was reportedly shot and killed this morning, Tuesday, 04 April 2023, at about 1:10 a.m. Police in Calcutta are looking into a murder case with two counts of attempted murder.
According to reports, Calcutta Police were called to a gunshot at the late chief’s residence. Upon their arrival, they discovered the woman’s lifeless body with numerous gunshot wounds to the head.
The female victim was unfortunately declared dead by the paramedics who also responded to the scene. Two additional males who were later identified as family members also suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital for medical attention.
According to the police’s preliminary investigation, an armed suspect (or suspects) entered the home, fired at the three victims, and then fled the scene. Cartridges were discovered by police at the spot. With the intention of apprehending the criminal, a team of investigators has been created and has already started the investigation (s). Finding out how the suspect(s) entered the house will be a part of the inquiry.
At this point, it is unknown why the incident occurred. Thus far, no one has been detained. Authorities advise anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 08600 10111 or provide information via MYSAPSAPP in order to help catch the suspect(s). Callers have the option to remain anonymous, and all information received will be handled as confidential.
Her husband, Chief Clyde Mnisi (37) was fatally shot as well on the Airport Road near White River next to Kruger-Mpumalanga International (KMI) Airport in the evening of Sunday, 26 March 2023 around 23h00 am. His killers are still at large and have not yet been found.
