A 56-year-old man appeared before the Evander Magistrate Court on Thursday, 28 September 2023 on charges of Rape.

It is alleged the father started raping his biological daughter in 2019 when she was only 16 years of age at their place of residence in Evander.

The alleged rape continued as a norm until the year 2021 September where the mother caught the two in bed.

Her attempts to end the relationship between the two were unsuccessful as she reported the case to social workers.

A case against the father was never opened at the time since the daughter refused and believed that what her father was doing was right and it was part of their tradition.

The mother had since moved out from her matrimonial home to reside in a new address.

The daughter therefore opened a case of rape against her father on Sunday, 10 September 2023, alleging that she was manipulated by her father claiming what they were doing was right, therefore she feels ashamed of what she he had done to her.

The father was eventually arrested on Friday, 22 September 2023 and appeared before the Evander Magistrate Court for his formal bail application.

In a statement the father stated that he is not guilty on the charge against him and only the court can find him guilty.

The daughter filed a statement saying she had no objection to the release of her father on bail as he is a breadwinner and can be attending court out of custody.

The father was therefore granted bail by the Evander Magistrate Court.
