Free Education and Drivers License Institute has opened a free skills development centre at Emmanuel Faith Mission in Embalenhle where they train people on different skills to prepare them for employment.
FEDLI currently offers training in spray painting, sandblasting, scaffolding and panel beating with an easy enrolment system.
According to Mr Sibusiso Hlolweni, Chairperson Free Education and Drivers License Institute, the institute saw the growing need to train people with their hands and equip them with the necessary skills which would make them employable or start their own businesses.
The institute grants the training opportunity to anyone based within Govan Mbeki Municipality and one only needs to provide a copy of their identity card or identity book as wells a proof of residents.
Mr Mqondisi Ntombela, an assessor at FEDLI says that they have already formed an alliance with a few companies for employment opportunities for their candidates.
However, the institute is still in the process for registration to receive accreditation.
The institute would need assistance from corporate and community members in order to sustain the longevity of the programme.
“We do not have stationary from printers, computers and other office stationery as well as equipment of our own, therefore, we would really appreciate it if businesses can assist so that we do not have to hire equipment in order to service our trainees,” pleaded Mr Hlongweni.
The trainees said they appreciate the initiative as it teaches them how to work with their hands and prepares them for the future with prospects of entering employment without any academic accolades.
Some even highlighted how hard it was to secure any form of employment without the necessary skills.
“The opportunity which has been granted to us is utalised well as we learn team work and learning from our peers during the train, so learning from each other also makes the experience fun.
