The former Umkhonto Wesizwe and Military Veterans member, Hevy Sidney Khumalo (55), from White River made his second brief appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrates` Court earlier today on charges of arson and attempted murder.
During his first appearance on 18 March 2022, the accused wanted to conduct his defence and later changed his mind and elected the services of a legal represantative and the bail application proceeded.
This case is about the fire incident which happened on 17 March 2022, when the provincial African National Congress (ANC) offices were set alight.
It is alleged that the accused poured petrol over the office and to employees who were present at the time and set the offices alight.
He then fled the scene but was later arrested.
The matter is postponed to 30 March 2022, for a bail hearing.
