Bethal police opened a case of murder and inquest after a couple was found dead with gunshot wounds.

The gruesome discovery of the couple’s death together with their dog was said to have happened on Monday morning, 19 July 2021.

The domestic worker got worried when she arrived at work at 8.30am and could not access the house, also tried to phone both her employers and the phone rang unanswered.

The neighbour also tried to phone the deceased Mr and Mr Du Randt without any luck.

Both the neighbour and the domestic worker suspected that something was not right, and they tried to enter the house, only to find that the security door leading to the bedrooms was locked.

When checking the house, everything seemed to be fine with both cars parked, but they became more worried when they could not see or hear the dog bark.

While trying to phone the couple again, only the wife’s phone rang unanswered.

Both the neighbour and the domestic worker decided to call the police.

On arrival, the police used force to gain entrance into the house since the security door was locked.

Both Mr Du Randt (61) and Mrs Du Randt (60) were found lying on the bed with gunshot wounds on their heads.

The lifeless dog was also found in the bathroom. A rifle and gunshot suspected to have been used to commission crime were also found on the floor with two cartridges.

All emergency role players were summoned to the scene and paramedics from Netcare 911 certified both the deceased dead-on scene.

The motive behind the gruesome murder is unknown and the police request anyone with information to contact Det/Seg December Jele on 060 802 2876 or SAPS Crime stop number 10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
