The embalenhle SAPS and CPF, together with community members and other stakeholders, launched the 16 Days of Activism with a peaceful march from Ext 17 taxi rank to Ext 16 sports ground on Monday, 25 November 2024.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness of the hurtful impact that gender-based violence and femicide have on everyone, especially women, and the murder of children in the area.

Earlier this year, a 4-year-old boy, Thingo Mahlangu, disappeared from his home, and his body was discovered in the veld.

A few months later, a 2-year-old boy, Khayone Pakeni, disappeared from his home, of which his body was also discovered in a veld.

The march headed to where the two minor boys were abducted and later found deceased. Crosses of remembrance were laid where their bodies were discovered.

“This is not a pass-by march, but we, as the eMbalenhle SAPS, want to let the Mahlangu and Pakeni family know that investigation is underway and justice will be served.

We urge members of the public with any information that can lead us to arrest the culprit(s),” said Colonel Maggie Mbokane, eMbalenhle Police Station commander.

The Mahlangu and Pakeni family members shed tears and mentioned that they will never be at peace until justice is served.
