Ms. Danisile Lukhele was overjoyed to finally get justice for her late fiancé, Mr. Kele, who was fatally shot in 2019 whilst they were celebrating her birthday and engagement.
The accused who shot Mr. Kele was sentenced on Thursday, 21 November 2024 to 21 years of direct imprisonment by the Evander Magistrate Court.
Danisile said till this date she does not celebrate her birthday as it brings back memories of the incident, but at last, she will finally be at peace knowing that justice has been served.
She further thanked the eMbalenhle police and Captain Malatjie of the SAPS.
Nkosinathi Percy Masango, accused one, and Sandile Charls Makhanya, accused two, were found guilty on all charges. In an incident that took place in eMbalenhle, accused one shot at the victim, Mr. Kele, alleging he was trying to hijack their BMW M3 motor vehicle.
A stray bullet shot another person who was near the scene. Both victims succumbed to their injuries. It was evident in court that the two accused assaulted Mr. Kele after shooting at him.
Accused one has been sentenced to 15 years each for two counts of murder, which will run concurrently; 5 years for discharging a firearm in a public place; and two years for assault GBH with one year suspended; meanwhile, accused two has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for assault GBH with one year suspended.
