Eleven suspects were arrested for possession of suspected house-breaking implements, unlicensed firearm and ammunitions after police received information about the suspects and an operation of police and private security was launched for the search of a house at Meyerville in Standerton on Thursday, 20 October 2022.

According to the statement by Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, communications spokesperson of the Mpumalanga SAPS Provincial Commissioner, the suspects are aged between 25 and 48 years being nine South African males, one Malawian male and one South African female.

“Two (2) vehicles suspected to be on the commission of crime plan, a firearm with six (6) live rounds of ammunitions and suspected house-breaking implements including a crowbar, iron rod, corrugated iron cutter, side cutter and 16 mobile phones were confiscated as well as other items including, hand gloves, set of overalls, construction reflector jackets were also found with the suspects,” said Mohlala.

Mohlala stated further that all the items at the scene were seized, however during investigation by police it was revealed that the vehicles belong to the suspects but were also seized for further investigation to determine if they were ever involved in committing crime

All the suspects were arrested on the spot and charged for possession of suspected house breaking implements, possession of firearm and ammunitions and are expected to appear before Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 October 2022. 

“Police cannot rule out the possibilities of adding more charges and the Contravening

of Immigration Act for the foreign national,” added Brigadier Mohlala.
