Leandra (Leslie) community members, in conjunction with the youth and Leslie SAPS celebrated Youth Day differently from everyone else by marching against suicide and drug abuse in the area on Thursday, 15 June 2023 and it commenced near Lebohang community clinic.
The march is sparked by the high statistics of suicide and drug use in area which has been reported at the police station for the past few months since September 2022.
The march started outside Lebohang community clinic to Chief Ampie Mayisa Secondary School and back to the venue.
“We want to help our community but we cannot do it alone.
If you know something especially with drug dealers, report to the police station and say something,” said KC Matrose, Station Commander of Leslie SAPS calling upon community members to fight against the scourge of suicide and drag abuse.
Different stakeholders including DSD Social Development, CPF, Women’s network and others were invited to share their message of support and impact on the issue which the community is facing.
Community members are hoping for a change in the area for this event.
