A foreign national shop owner was evicted by their landlord on their premises at Ext 26, eMbalenhle, on Thursday, 23 January 2025.

The shop owner and employees did not look further; instead, they moved into the front opposite premises of the former landlord the same day.

The eviction came after the landlord found himself unable to purchase electricity due to a blocked meter and was allegedly told that he owes the municipality more than R50 000.00 by the municipal officials.

The landlord allegedly asked the shop owner to meet them halfway by increasing the rental fee to help pay the municipality rates, but the shop owner refused.

The municipal officials also warned the foreign national shop owners that on the 28th of February 2025, no excuses should be given to them as they will be expecting all correct documents. Failure to provide the documents, the shop will be permanently closed.
