Residents of Mandela and Marikana were shocked by the incident which one person dead, and three seriously injured. The shooting between two groups of gangs, who are alleged to be Basotho happened late afternoon of Wednesday, 7 February. Several shacks were also burnt down.
“We knew it was not going to end well after the body of a woman was found with eyes and private parts removed on Sunday”, said one of the resident of Marikana Section. The man who was shot at the gate while trying to seek refuge in one of the houses, was certified dead on scene by the paramedics.
The other two men were found lying in another section of Marikana and were taken by the ambulance. They were said to have found sitting in front of the fire and were seriously beaten. eMabalenhle police said four cases were opened, a case of murder, attempted murders and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
