Secunda Hawks-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, together with members from Secunda K9, arrested five Nigerian nationals aged between 34 and 48 on Thursday, 18 July 2024, during a disruptive operation in Evander for dealing in drugs, interfering with police duties, and contravening the Immigration Act, respectively.

The arrest follows the receipt of information regarding the occupants of a house in Evander who were allegedly selling drugs. A search warrant was authorised and executed.

During the search, drugs were found in the two outside rooms, and two suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs.

During the arrest of the duo, the owner of the house interfered with the duties of the police and was arrested.

The other two suspects found in the house were searched, and they did not have passports or permits to be in the Republic, thus necessitating their arrest.

The five suspects were detained pending their first court appearance at the Evander Magistrate Court on Friday, 19 July 2024.

Exhibits seized were rock cocaine, crystal meth, cat, mandrax, and dagga, with an estimated total street value of thirty-four thousand five hundred and sixty-seven rand (R34 567.00).

The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Gerber, applauded the team for the excellent work done. He complemented the collaboration between the different law enforcement units.

As the Hawks, in conjunction with our community partners, we shall fight the scourge of drug abuse, which is destroying the vulnerable in society, without fear or favour.

We will act on the information provided and bring perpetrators to account.
