Bethal SAPS Social Crime prevention with Men for change and Women’s network in partnership with Govan Mbeki Municipality Local Aids Council celebrated Mandela Day where 100 people formed part of the team to participate in the 67 Minutes fun-run and fun-walk.
As part of the social responsibility, Social Crime prevention and communication as well as Men for change and Women’s network with different stakeholders including CPF, Youth Desk, Department of Health, Department of Social Development, Department of Sports, Culture and recreation; Childline, Enduduzweni Non Governmental Organization, Philasande Non Profit Organization, PSASA, Mzinoni SAPS, Bethal SuperSpar, Highveld Funerals and Thomas-Heights Ambassadors held the activity with the purpose of raising funds for three centres for disabled people in Bethal and Mzinoni area, namely: Kuhlase Disability Centre, Impumelelo Stimulation Centre and Vukuzenzele disability Centre where participants joined the fun-run and walk with R67.
Sergeant Thomas Mogadime with the team came up with the idea and stated that every individual has the responsibility to transform the world with the ability to make an impact in the community or in the lives of those who cannot help themselves.
Founders of all the Centres for disabled people are striving to make a diffence by taking care, empowering and capacitating people living with disability and they struggle with other resources to make their work easier which made them reach social crime prevention office for assistance since they are struggling.
After the fun-run and walk, participants engaged themselves in aerobics and stakeholders were given a platform for messages of support where all representatives stated that the rights of people with disability has to be respected and that they deserve taken care of.
Representative from Childline mentioned that disabled people need to be protected against any form of abuse and sexual offences.
The total amount of R6700.00 was raised and Pastor Elias Mokoena, the Chairperson of Faith Based Organisation, Chairperson of Civil society together with Mr Mthethwa from the Department of Health and Sergeant Thomas Mogadime handed over all the funds raised to all three centres for disabled people.
Founders of all disabled centres appreciated the efforts and support by stakeholders during 67 Minutes of Tata Mandela and were grateful for the funds raised for them.
