Early on Saturday morning 10, June 2023 four individuals were killed on the N12 road between Phola and Emalahleni. This occurred during a collision between a sedan and a light delivery truck (LDV).

Eight additional people were injured and were taken to the neighboring hospital for treatment by the emergency staff.

At the moment, the crash’s specifics are unclear.

But it’s claimed that one of the involved vehicles lost control, went off course, and rolled numerous times before crashing into a car traveling in the opposite direction.

It is unknown if the two drivers were among the four who died on impact at the site because the occupants of the two cars were ejected out and their bodies were scattered on the road.

Furthermore, the emergency personnel who responded to the scene found the debris of the two vehicles, which included the engine of one of the vehicles on the road. One of the vehicles was also pulling a trailer.

Investigation regarding the cause of accident is currently underway.

Vusi Shongwe, the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety Security and Liaison, is urging cautious driving to avoid road fatalities caused by needles. Three women and one male are among the victims.

“We all need to play our part to thwart loss of lives on our roads. Let’s be responsible road users who respect the rules of the road at all times. Every person who sit behind the steering wheel must at all times prioritise their safety and that of other road users,” adds the MEC.

Shongwe is sending his heartfelt condolences condolences to the bereaved families and also wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
