Sasol hosted the older persons sports day on Wednesday, 26 October 2022 at Kinross Community Centre.
The sports day helps the elderly relieve stress, help exercise their brains and also beneficial for memory, mood, imagination and more.
Nine (9) different groups around Govern Mbeki Municipality (GMM) were invited to participate in the event.
Sasol and the different old age groups hosts hosting such events yearly.
Only six (6) groups made it and competed against each other in singing and modelling.
“At my age, I still run faster than younger people. I still have energy because I didn’t eat everything like children of today,” said an elder from Zimeleni Service Centre.
The different groups were required to sing one gospel song and have two contestants both male and female from each group to compete at Mr and Mrs GMM Older Persons.
Crowned Queen of older persons is Sarah Makama from Siyanqoba Old Age Centre, Grace Mahlangu also from Siyanqoba O.A.C as first princess and Margaret Mkwebane from Zimeleni Service Centre as second princess.
Meanwhile, crowned Joseph Ngwenya from Zimeleni as King, Delityala Tol from Kinross Golden Oldies as first prince and Raymond Gulube from Embalenhle O.A.C as second prince.
Active Aging Queen 2022 from Siyanqoba O.A.C was invited to show the contestants how to ‘walk the talk’.
Everyone was excited and grateful to be participating in the event.
Every participate received a package with a bottle of water, key holder, pill storage box, a hat and a t-shirt.
