Metro FM newsreader and presenter, Peal Shongwe was found dead in her apartment and was allegedly discovered by her neighbour.
she is believed to have died due to natural causes.
Pearl had become a brand in the media landscape.
Born in Soweto, the television presenter, newsreader, voice artist and facilitator had always dreamed of a career in broadcasting having started auditioning for TV commercials at the age of 12.
Her career started in 2010 when she joined a youth radio station, YFM as an entertainment reporter working alongside youth pioneer and DJ, Mo Flava, for over two years.
She went on to work as a floor MC at Silverstar Casino, where she learnt the art of connecting with audiences.
Due to her passion in sport, Pearl also worked for SABC Sport as a reporter and voice artist for their flagship programs, including a children sport show, Sports Buzz.
Over the years she found herself presenting on the SABC 24hr News channel as a sports host on Sports Live.
Through her hard work and versatility she moved into the news and current affairs where she co-hosted SABC’s longest running show, Morning Live on weekends alongside Simphiwe Ncongwane.
During her passing, she was now a newsreader on Metro FM’s mid-morning show, The AM Edition and anchor for the weekend lunchtime news on channel 404.
