The Govan Mbeki Municipality staff members participate in Employees Wellness Day at Lilian Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda on Friday, 05 May 2023.
This is a wellness initiative meant to motivate staff members to live healthy lifestyles and take lead of the free advantages that come with it.
Additionally, this will help staff members offer municipal services to communities in an effective and efficient manner.
Municipal Manager, Mr Eliot Maseko also joined the event and waited in line for health tests.
“I thought I was going to sleep the whole day at home, but I actually realized that I could relax by joining the team and exercise rather than sleeping,” said one of the staff members.
The staff member further mentioned that they are grateful that the officials of GMM consider their well-being and mental health.
Activities were planned throughout the day to encourage employee collaboration, wellbeing, productivity, financial fitness, and thorough health tests and screenings.
Employees competed in various activities which included fun walk, 100m sprint, soccer and netball.
Others waited in line for health challenges like cholesterol and blood pressure tests while some participated in the activities.
A prize giving ceremony and trophy distribution marked the conclusion of the event.
The municipality hopes to host a bigger event next year.
