Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) is saddened to report the passing of the member of Council, Cllr Dumisile Goodness Nhlengethwa who passed away in the early hours of 24 May 2021.
Cllr Nhlengethwa was the Councillor of the ANC in Gert Sibande District Municipality, appointed and serving as the Member of the Mayoral Committee leading the Infrastructure and Technical Services portfolio.
She was trusted with a number of positions of authority or roles in the recent past years of her career and political journey.
These included serving as a Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the National Assembly, and Member elect at Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.
She was also the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, a position she held until she joined GSDM in 2016.
Cllr Nhlengethwa was very involved and highly passionate about her work.
She will be remembered for her drive to improve roads through the Road Infrastructure programme of GSDM.
In its special meeting held today to announce the news, the GSDM Council represented by the different political parties serving in Council, expressed their shock and condolences to the Nhlengethwa family, the political party she was serving and the GSDM family.
GSDM is proud to have had an individual of her calibre within the institution and she will be missed greatly.
The entire GSDM leadership and staff personnel send their messages of support, condolences and pray for strength to the Nhlengethwa family during this time of bereavement. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
