Staff and learners of Sizwakele Secondary School in eMbalenhle gathered on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, to bid an emotional farewell to their principal, Mr Samuel S. Moemisi, following his retirement after an impressive 36 years of dedicated service in education.

The farewell ceremony was attended by members of the School Governing Body (SGB), parents, former educators, learners and principals from surrounding schools, who came together to honour a man widely described as a dedicated educator, leader and mentor.

Moemisi spent 16 years serving as the principal of Sizwakele Secondary School, where his leadership contributed to the school’s reputation as a performing school in eMbalenhle.

“He was not just a principal of the school, but a father to us, a leader and a mentor. He was the pillar of the school, which is now known as a school of excellence in eMbalenhle,” said Gugu Mtsweni, the 2026 RCL President of Sizwakele Secondary School.

Bhuti Mahlangu, Chairperson of the Sizwakele SGB, described Moemisi as a dedicated leader whose contribution had strengthened the school community.

“You kept our school stronger, wiser and more united because of your leadership. May your retirement be filled with peace, joy and fulfilment, knowing that you have served with dedication,” said Mahlangu.

“We salute you, Mr Moemisi, and wish you well in this new chapter of your life, as you richly deserve this retirement,” he added.

The Circuit Manager for the Mpumalanga Department of Education, Mr King Masondo, also paid tribute to Moemisi, highlighting his commitment to teamwork, discipline and dedication.

“Sizwakele is really a performing school. We once worked together as principals in this area. Under your leadership, the school’s results were impressive. These results did not happen by accident. They were the product of hard work, careful planning and effective leadership,” said Masondo.

He praised Moemisi for leading by example and placing service at the centre of his leadership.

“What I particularly appreciated about working with you was your ability to lead by example. Being a principal is not simply about holding a position of authority. It is about serving others, inspiring learners, supporting teachers, working with parents and serving the community,” he said.

“You did all of this with great commitment and humility,” Masondo added.

In an emotional response, Moemisi expressed his gratitude to the staff, SGB members, learners and parents who supported him throughout his years at Sizwakele.

“Today I can stand here and say, I had a very good team behind me and that is because I led by example,” said Moemisi.

“I want to thank you all for the support you have given me throughout these years. It has been an honour to serve this school and this community,” he added.

Before closing his farewell address, Moemisi left learners with a message about the importance of education and making the most of the opportunities available to them.

“For you to succeed in life you need to be educated. You being at Sizwakele is an opportunity. Embrace it. Take it. Go with it. And make use of it because with this key called education you will reach places that you dreamt of,” he said.
