Nomusa Hlatjwayo (35)  appeared before the Evander magistrates’ court on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, for her formal bail application.

She is facing a charge of murder of his alleged lover, Snethemba Thomo (26)

According to a statement of the investigation officer, the accused stabbed Thomo three times, leading to his death.

The incident was said to have taken place in extension 17 at eMbalenhle.

The state opposed the release of the accused, stating that there is community outrage and the safety of the applicant will be in jeopardy, since people were picketing outside the court.

According to the affidavit statement read by the defense in court, the accused acted in self-defense.

The defense argued that the people picketing outside are from eMbalenhle and that if she is released on bail, she will move to another area. Furthermore, her life won’t be in danger as we live in a country governed by laws.

Stating that, should the accused feel unsafe, she can report to the nearest police station.

The matter was postponed to 01 July 2026 for the bail judgment.
