Former Mpumalanga Democratic Alliance Leader, Mr James Masango was elected unopposed to be the Deputy Chairperson of the Federal Council, one of the highest decision-making bodies of the party.

Masango was elected during the Federal Congress held over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. He will be Deputy Chairperson to Helen Zille who was elected Chairperson of Federal Council this weekend too.

According to the party, Masango is the first DA member in Mpumalanga to be elected to the Federal structure of the party.

However he did serve on Fedex and Federal Council by being co-opted to Fedex and Federal Council – and later serves to these Federal structures by virtue of being the Provincial Chairperson and Leader.

From 2015 to 2018, Masango was the Leader of the DA in Mpumalanga and Member of the Provincial Legislature where he served as DA caucus Leader and Leader of the official opposition.

Masango retired from politics after the 2019 National Elections.

But decided to return to active politics in 2020 were he stood uncontested as one of the two Deputy Chairpersons of the Federal Council at the recent party’s elective congress.

“James Masango brings along vast experience to the party after serving to so many structures of the DA and being a public representative for 19 years.

The DA in Mpumalanga is proud to have a person of Masango’s Calibre representing not only us as a province in the Federal Council, but also representing the DA in all works of life.

We wish James all the best and we will give him all the necessary support during his time at Federal Council,” said DA Mpumalanga Leader Jane Sithole.
