Community members from Kinross in ward 16 in the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality led a peaceful march to deliver a memorandum regarding their blocked electricity meter boxes.

The march came after meter boxes of residents who owed the municipality were blocked and as such were unable to purchase electricity.

Part of the demands was that the mayor should bring Eskom officials to address the Electricity issue.

Residents also alleged that the contractors assigned to change the meter boxes are using illegal (bridged) electricity.

Govan Mbeki Municipality has recently issued a statement informing residents about the implementation of credit control and debt collection policy.

Cllr Jabu Zwane received the memorandum on behalf of the municipality, he further promised community members that their meters would be unblocked, giving residents a chance till the 10th of February to make arrangements with the municipality or pay their debts.
