For the first time ever, Africa will be hosting the Netball World Cup in Cape Town and will commence from 28 July to 06 August 2023.

The trophy landed on Africa Day on Thursday, 25 May 2023 and the Mpumalanga trophy tour commenced on Sunday, 04 June 2023 to Thursday, 08 June 2023.

Govan Mbeki Municipality community members were invited to join the tour on Tuesday, 06 June 2023 at Sasol Recreation Club in eMbalenhle.

The aim of the tour is to take back netball to the people of South Africa.

“I have nothing much to say because I did all the talking the past few years for everything to be successful,” said Cecilia Molokwane, President of Netball in South Africa and Africa.

President Molokwane further emphasized that Africans should be proud and excited about this World Cup as it is the first time, after 60 years, South Africa has been given an opportunity to host the tournament.

“The chosen one! You made it happen,” those were the words of netball players and community members.

Acting Executive Mayor, MMC Lwandile Ziwele, welcomed the trophy and also thanked President Molokwane for having experienced this historic event.
