A 39-year-old man was apprehended by Bethal police after he violated a grave at the Rustfontein farm.

According to reports, the police were notified by a concerned community member who was on the farm conducting his duties when he noticed a man who was busy violating the grave after he dug up a grave deeper than six feet. This led to the arrest.

Police in Bethal acted swiftly and found the man in the grave and ordered him to exit.

He was able to do so by using the stairway he built inside the hole.

According to information received by Seskhona Newspaper, the suspect admitted to removing the remains from the grave after the police discovered the exhumed remains next to the tombstone.

The grave had a tombstone on it that belonged to the late Henry Regionald Pattison and Basil Stuart Pattison, the police confirmed.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Bethal Police cells for detention and charged accordingly.

He will then appear at Bethal Magistrates Court today, 28 April 2023 facing a charge of violation of a grave.
