Mayor Mngomezulu makes good on his promise to a rural school

On 17 April 2023, Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) delivered to its promise made by Executive Mayor Cllr Walter Mngomezulu to assist Thokozani Combined School following a burglary at the school, costing the school a great loss in terms of school kitchen material amongst other things.

During the school re-opening programme which took place in January 2023, Cllr Mngomezulu learnt with sadness of burglary crimes that the school had suffered during the holidays.

Thokozani Combined School, a rural school located in the outskirts of Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality towards Machadodorp, was overjoyed when a delegation from GSDM, Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) and Vaalbult Colliery arrived to deliver new equipment as a donation to the school.

Mayor Mngomezulu had made a commitment to engage local mines to contribute towards a donation, to ensure that the school nutrition programme is not affected.

Vaalbult Colliery heeded to the call and partnered with GSDM to assist the school.

The list of equipment donated included, but not limited to a deep freezer fridge, a microwave, ten 50L pots, 20 L water boiler, 20L buckets, bowls, and many other items.

Mayor Mngomezulu has expressed great appreciation to Vaalbult Colliery for answering to the call for help saying this was in line with the principles of the District Development Model.
