A man died on Monday morning, 8 December 2025, after he was allegedly chased by taxi patrollers for offering a lift to his colleague near the Charlie 3 gate in Embalenhle.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had given his colleague a lift from Embalenhle towards Sasol when taxi patrollers began pursuing him. In an attempt to escape, he abandoned his vehicle and ran towards the Charlie 3 security gate. He later tried to return to his car, but was struck by an oncoming taxi. Paramedics certified him dead on the scene.

Witnesses further alleged that the tyres of the victim’s vehicle were punctured by sharp objects during the incident.

Seskhona Media contacted the chairperson of the Vukta Taxi Association, Mr Fanyana Sibanyoni, who said he was not aware of taxi patroller involvement but confirmed being informed that a person had been hit by a taxi. He stated that he will come back to us after he has collected more information.

Police also confirmed the incident. Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, from the office of the Provincial Commissioner, reported that a case was registered following the death of a motorist who was allegedly running away from taxi patrollers when he was struck. She also confirmed that the man’s vehicle sustained damage.

Investigations into the circumstances leading to the incident are ongoing.
