A 31-year-old man from Section A in Mamelodi East is facing a charge of attempted murder of an eight year old girl.
He made his first appearance at the Mamelodi Magistrates’ Court.
The man is said to be in a relationship with the mother of the minor.
It is alleged that on 24 April 2022, the couple had gone to a funeral where the pair had an altercation.
The day after the altercation occurred between the two, the mother of the child had gone to a car wash close by, the accused went to a house where she stayed to try sort their issued out.
The accused found the minor with her grandmother when he showed up.
It is alleged that the accused took a butcher knife he found in the kitchen and slit the throat of the minor.
The mother of the victim heard screams of her mother and quickly rushed home, took her injured child and rushed her to a nearby hospital.
The child is currently in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The accused was arrested after he handed himself over to the police at Hammanskraal Police Station under a false charge of assault.
The matter is postponed to 05 May 2022 for formal bail application.
