The Breyten High Court has sentenced 38-year-old John Menzi Sibeko to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for murder.
Sibeko was sentenced on 20 August 2026 following a murder that occurred on 14 October 2025, at approximately 12:01, at the Afghani informal settlement in Emzinoni.
According to the information presented in court, Sibeko and the victim had an argument before he strangled her with a wire.
After the incident, Sibeko allegedly locked the victim inside the house and left the scene.
The accused later informed the deceased’s relatives about what he had done. He also wrote suicide notes in which he referred to the
incident.
Police members Sergeant JT Sihlali and Constable LJ Skhosana responded swiftly after receiving the complaint.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Constable BE Mavimbela, whose work, together with the testimony of police officials and other witnesses, contributed to the successful prosecution of the case.
Sibeko was subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment.
The court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
