Community members of eMbalenhle Mandela section went to picket at the at the eMbalenhle Municipal offices and assembled on the ground next to the police station as a way of voicing out the grievances for ward 20 community members to the municipality.
The community is aggrieved by the constant electricity interruptions amongst other issues in the area.
Members of the community want service delivery as they feel the municipality does not prioritize the section.
Mr Tsokota who is the chairperson of Cope (eMbalenhle branch) led the march and say they want the municipality to resolve the electricity interruption in the area.
“Our intentions of being here today are for the delivery of a memorandum of grievances to GMM municipality which seeks to address the issue of poor service delivery.
We feel that we are not treated the same as other wards in eMbalenhle and our needs are never prioritised,” he said explaining the purpose of the march.
According to Mr Tsokota, some of the things listed on the memorandum are as follows:
- Road maintenance is never done in our ward, they are only fix our streets when there is to be a funeral in one street only.
- The sewer systems have last since been serviced by Prince of tide in 2019 and some houses were not connected to the sewer system.
- In Ext. 10 there are still asbestos roofing’s which were supposed to be removed by now but they are still not removed.
- There are also many stands which are not allocated to people some of which are in Marikana.
The memorandum also includes the demand of a school to be built, a taxi rank, RDP houses and a list of other demands which was handed over to the MMC of Energy, Mr. Vusi Mbokazi.
The municipality was given 14 days to respond to the demands.
