In striving for a drug-free society, the Men Inspired And Making Improvement (MIAMI) organization hosted a drug and substance abuse awareness fun walk on Saturday, 18 April 2026, in eMbalenhle.
The fun walk aimed to alert and educate community members about the danger of substance abuse, as it seems to be a leading factor which contributes towards the increasing crime statistics in the area.
“This is the first of many in alerting and taking steps on the issue of drug and substance abuse faced in our area,” said Morena Kotwane, the Chairperson of MIAMI.
Community members came out in numbers, wearing red t-shirts in support of the initiative, as they believe that it will not only benefit an individual but the society as a whole.
“We need everyone to come together so that we can sort it out, meaning MIAMI will host similar events, or rather initiatives, in the future, growing bigger and bigger as we fight the abuse,” said Kotwane in closing.
