A 26-year-old Mozambican national, Diofo Tomas Calangue, made a brief appearance before the Evander Magistrates Court on Friday, 14 November 2025.
His appearance came after he was arrested for a gruesome house robbery and rape incident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 11 November 2025, at Extension 18, eMbalenhle.
Preliminary reports indicated that a 72-year-old woman was asleep with family members when two unknown male suspects entered the house at approximately 02h30.
It is alleged that the suspects gained entry through a sliding door that was not locked due to a broken handle.
The victims were reportedly threatened by the suspects, who were armed with dangerous weapons and had their faces covered.
They demanded money, tied up some of the victims, and ransacked the house. Two female victims, aged 18 and 32, were allegedly raped before the suspects fled the scene with undisclosed items.
Another suspect remains at large.
His matter was postponed to Friday, 21 November 2025, for verification of address and possible bail application.
