Mduduzi Jerry Shabangu )24) and Mohlami Samuel Ramahai (29) appeared at the Evander Magistrate Court after they were arrested by the police in connection with the facility that was operating in Evander for disciplining troublesome children.

They are facing 15 counts of charges emanating from Child abuse, Criminal injur, Assault GBH and Kidnapping.

Parents of the children who were sent to the disciplinary camp were also present in court to demand the release for the suspects.

According to the interviews conducted by Seskhona Media with the officials that were working at the camp and the parents of the children, parents are the ones who sent their children to the camp as a last resort to get their children to behave.

One of the security official at the disciplinary facility by the name of Sanele said parents are the ones who requested them to come and get their children and also paid for the duration of the camp.

He further mentioned that some of the children arrived at the camp with some injuries.

“The only thing we did was to train them,” said Sanele.

Mr Vusi Shabalala from Ext 15 in Embalenhle said their children were not kidnapped, but as parents decided to take them to the camp because they trouble them.

“I sent them my home location and even accompanied my child to the camp.

My child is troublesome and he even sold all his clothes, he steal from us and smoke.

We are here to support those who are arrested because it was our decision to hand our children to them for disciplinary, Mr Shabalala concluded.

Ms Phindile Sibanyoni added that her daughter was giving them headache and after she went to future rehab, she now behaves, clean at home, read the bible and attend school.

One grandmother said her grandchild went to the camp twice and he is now attending school and behaving well.

The matter has been postponed to next week Wednesday, 16 April 2025 for a formal bail application,
