Sbusiso Sydney Sibeko (31) made his first appearance before the Evander Magistrate court in connection with the double murder of males over the weekend.

this is after he was arrestedok Saturday, 11 January after he handed himself over to the police.

According to information received, in the morning of 11 January 2025, an elderly woman discovered two men lying a few meters apart next to the road. Both men appeared to have sustained some injuries. One of the victims was initially able to respond to her enquiries about their condition but later became unresponsive.

The woman alerted the community, who then contacted the Police and other relevant stakeholders. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene and unfortunately certified both men dead.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the two male victims had been hired to perform some work at the home of the Constable’s cousin. It is alleged that a television was subsequently stolen from the property, prompting the cousin to seek assistance from the said Constable in recovering the stolen item.

Allegations further indicated that the Constable and an accomplice located the two victims then reportedly assaulted them and left them at the scene where they were later discovered.

The Police member was off duty at the time of the incident.

The matter was postponed to Monday, 20th of January 2024 for a formal bail application, the accused was remanded in custody
