A 68-year-old sickly woman is currently living in dire living conditions with her three grandchildren, aged five (5), six (6), and ten (10), in a small shack located in the Marikana section of Kinross.

Through the learner support agent (LSA) under Programme Support Association Southern Africa (PSASA), who are placed in schools to identify children in need of homework support and also psychological support, thereby taking those cases to social workers. The agents placed at Mdibini Primary were able to identify the cases of the three siblings.

A home visit was conducted, and it was discovered that the family had no food, no proper school uniform, and the shack they are living in is not in good condition.

According to PSASA social worker Ms Thuli Mthethwa, the women took the siblings into her care after the mother passed on, leaving all three siblings without birth certification. The entire family currently depends on the ill grandmothers grant money for survival.

The social workers are currently in a process of holistic evaluation of the families background.

Members of the community, together with social workers, have donated food and other essentials; therefore, they are pleading with anyone willing to donate anything, including building materials, to help build a dignified shelter for the family.

Any donors willing to donate can kindly contact Mrs Thuli Mthethwa at 065 657 3827 or MS Gabi Zikhali at 079 988 0371
