According to police statistics around Secunda and eMbalenhle, there has been an increase of house robbery cases since Black Friday.

According to Const Busisiwe Mthethwa, Spokesperson of Secunda and eMbalenhle SAPS, investigations of the robbery cases which were opened after the Black Friday sale reveal that the victims placed empty boxes of appliances and electronics such as plasma TV’s, washing machines, dishwashers, sound bars and sound systems outside dustbins since they were too big to fit inside awaiting for the municipality to collect the garbage.

“We urge residents to destroy the packaging boxes after they have removed their appliances and electronics because it alerts criminals of the items in house and placing them outside only attracts them,” said Const Mthethwa.

As more sales are approaching now during the festive season, members of the community are encouraged to either burn all their boxes or shred them before they disposing them.
