Police arrested two (2) male suspects for business robbery and possession of stolen items that worth R40 000 from tavern near Kwa-Skhosana in eMbalenhle on Monday, 12 December 2022.

According to Constable Busisiwe Mthethwa spokesperson at eMbalenhle SAPS, the owner of the tavern stated that on Sunday, 11 December 2022 when he closed his store at about 23h00 late in the evening everything was in order, all the doors and windows were properly closed.

When he returned the following day on Monday, 12 December 2022 at about 08h00 early in the morning to start his business as usual that’s when he noticed that everything was scattered on the floor and the roof tile was opened.

“When he checked inside, he found that bulk of his items were stolen which includes a laptop, TV, 103 x 20 packs of cigarettes and different types of liquor gins.

The value of stolen items was valued at R40 000,

The owner of the tavern followed the information he received from members of the community regarding the robbery which lead him to the suspects,” said Constable Mthethwa.

He then contacted police at eMbalenhle who acted swiftly and went to the location where the duo was already enjoying some of the cigarretes and spirits which were stolen from the tavern.

Mthethwa said, “When the members got to the location, they found the duo already drunk by some of the alcohol they had already drank”.

Two suspected males were arrested and some of the alcohol and cigarettes were recovered including the TV, however the laptop has not been recovered at this stage.

During investigation of the business robbery it was discovered that one of the suspects was linked to house robbery that happened in July 2022 and he was part of the police wanted persons’ list.

Mthethwa said that eMbalenhle SAPS applauds W/O Melusi Mthombeni and Sgt Menzi Hlophe for their handwork.
