Osizweni Education & Development Trust, trading as Osizweni Science Centre (“Trust”) was established in 1991, with the mandate to uplift the standard of living of its beneficiaries through education and to manage its assets for the benefit of the local communities.

The Trust intends to fill the current vacancy for a Public Trustee. The preferred candidate will be a visionary leader capable of meaningfully shaping the organisation’s future direction.

Among various duties, the Public Trustee’s principal responsibility will be to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight, and independent judgement in the affairs of the Trust;
  • Uphold the principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability;
  • Support the Trust’s commitment to improving education and community development outcomes;
  • Contribute meaningfully to decision‑making on programmes, resource allocation, and the long‑term strategic direction of the Trust;
  • Ensure the organisation remains true to its mission and legal obligations; and
  • Act as an ambassador for the organisation within the community.

The requirements for this position are as below:

  1. The candidate must have proven leadership experience;
  2. The candidate must be a South African citizen;
  3. The candidate must be a natural person;
  4. The candidate must be proficient in English;
  5. The candidate must reside within one of the communities served by the Trust (Govan Mbeki, Albert Luthuli, Lekwa and Dipaleseng Municipalities);
  6. The candidate must demonstrate a genuine interest in the field of education;
  7. The candidate must be non-partisan and not an active member of any political party;
  8. The candidate must have no criminal record;
  9. The candidate must be actively involved in community work or related activities;
  10. The candidate must have current or prior experience in the education sector for a minimum period of three years; and
  11. Must satisfy the requirements of the Trust Property Control Act 57 of 1988 and possess an understanding of its provisions.

NB: This position is purely voluntary and is not remunerated.
