A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year- old man in Leslie.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, 14 May 2023 on charges of rape after being nabbed by the community, which helped in his arrest.
The said incident, which ironically occurred during Child Protection Month (May), was reported to the Police in Leslie, who acted swiftly, thereby arresting the suspect a few moments after the matter was reported.
According to information, it is said that on that fateful day, the victim was playing in the street when she was allegedly lured by the suspect into his house.
It is alleged that this is when the suspect took advantage of the girl and raped her.
After the incident, the victim went home and related her ordeal to her grandmother.
The matter was eventually reported to the police in Leslie a by, astute members reacted swiftly and the suspect was apprehended.
The suspect appeared before the Leandra magistrate on Monday, 15 May 2023 where his matter was removed from the roll without bail application and the suspect was released pending further investigation because there was not enough information in the docket.
It is alleged that the suspect was informed that he would be summoned if need be.
